As United Methodists our heritage is very important to how we profess our faith. We emphasize the centrality of God’s grace – the love God has for us even though we cannot earn it and do not deserve it.
We practice our faith through works of piety and mercy. Jesus said the way to eternal life is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. (Luke 10:27) Acts of piety strengthen our relationship with a living God: things like prayer, study of scripture, journaling, sacraments, public and private worship. Acts of mercy strengthen our relationship to neighbor: things like service to those in need, working for justice for all people, teaching, inviting, mentoring, volunteering, community involvement, supporting our families.
